Sailors Finish Perfect Epsilon League Run with 37–7 Victory

An undefeated league season. A championship earned outright. A night to remember at Newport Harbor.

With the Epsilon League title on the line, the Sailors delivered a complete team performance Friday night, defeating Trabuco Hills 37–7 to claim the program’s first outright league championship since 2004.

The victory capped a perfect 5–0 league campaign and an 8–2 regular season for head coach Matt Burns and his Sailors.

An Offense That Delivered

Senior quarterback Jordan Spigarelli was sharp throughout, completing 17 of 22 passes for 218 yards and three touchdowns. He spread the scoring among three receivers: Jackson Stremick on a 17-yard connection, Ryan Palmer on a 43-yard strike and Shane McKibbin on a 7-yard touchdown.

On the ground, Pepe Tena powered the rushing attack with 162 yards, including touchdown runs of 43 and 18 yards. Up front, the offensive line helped make both sides of the attack go, providing protection and opening lanes.

Defense Set the Tone

The Sailors’ defense made sure the anticipated showdown never became a shootout.

Carter Clark’s fumble recovery set up a Newport Harbor scoring opportunity, while Ryder Godbold and Jackson Stremick combined for a sack that helped stall another Mustangs possession.

Newport Harbor built a 37–0 third-quarter lead, sending the game into a running clock in the fourth quarter. Trabuco Hills entered the night unbeaten in league play; the Sailors left no doubt about who would take home the title.

A Championship Built Together

From the offensive line to the end zone, and from defensive pressure to big-play execution, this championship belonged to the entire team.

The 2026 Sailors put together a league season worthy of celebration—and added a special chapter to Newport Harbor football history.
