Greg Gladstone Memorial Scholarship Award

Greg Gladstone died doing what he loved: Surfing in Newport on January 23, 2010. Greg was a lifelong Waterman who felt most at home in the ocean. As a student at Ventura High School, he was a C.I.F. State Water Polo champion and local lifeguard. Greg moved to Newport as a teenager, where he enjoyed the many surf spots as much as the locals.

Greg valued and fostered his relationships with others above all other priorities. Everyone who knew him well would describe Greg as incredibly kind, gentle, humorous and honest. He was an animal lover and avid outdoorsman. As a licensed general contractor, he quickly became respected around town for his steadfast work ethic and impeccable craftsmanship. His personal integrity and meticulous attention to detail helped grow his business through word of mouth. Clients trusted, respected, and loved him.

Greg brought positive energy to every gathering, and although he mastered the art of working hard, his greatest gift was the ability to play hard. He was a dedicated father who truly appreciated and savored life, always looking for the next adventure. Greg was a great example of the philosophy that the most important things in life are not things, they are people.

The Greg Gladstone Memorial Scholarship offers a $1,000 scholarship and commemorative plaque honoring Greg’s legacy.
